Zagreb, Croatia - Guide

Zagreb - General Information

The capital of Croatia and its largest city, Zagreb is located between the southern slopes of Medvednica Mountain and the banks of the Sava River. Throughout its long history it has sat at the intersection of several important trade routes between the Adriatic coast and Central Europe. Situated quite high above sea level, it has a Continental climate with hot, dry summers and cold, snowy winters. Zagreb also offers visitors a charming 'Old City' with a strong Baroque feel evident in its architecture and cobbled streets, as well as picturesque open-air markets and a wealth of cultural sites (including the celebrated National Theatre, which offers many performances in English, and the Mimara Museum, which displays works by Canaletto, Rembrandt, Velasquez, Holbein, Turner, Renoir and Degas.)
