Zagreb Airport is located 9 kilometres south east of the city centre. Croatian Airlines and Wizz Air fly there from the UK. There is a bus link between the airport and the Central Bus Station on Marin Drzic Avenue. A single (one-way) ticket costs 30 Croatian kuna (€4.20). The first bus departs from the airport at 07.00 and the service is every thirty minutes between 08.00 and 20.00. The journey takes 20-25 minutes. Between the last regular bus at 20.00 and the first one at 07.00 the next morning, there is a bus that departs from the airport for the bus station every time a Croatia Airlines plane lands. (Bear in mind that neighbouring airports in Rijeka, Ljubljana, Graz, Klagenfurt and Trieste are serviced by low-cost carriers and are often a viable alternative to travelling directly to Zagreb. EasyJet flies to Rijeka, Ljubljana and Ryan Air flies to Graz and Klagenfurt.)
Zagreb has an efficient, integrated public transport system that consists of trams, buses and trains. The tram network operates24 hours a day. From 04.00 to midnight there are 15 "daytime lines" (tram lines 1-9, 11-15 and 17), and from midnight to 04.00 there are 4 "night lines" (tram lines 31-34) which cover most of the daytime lines on a reduced frequency (around 30-40 minutes). The price of single-ticket is 8 Croatian kuna (€1.00). There is also a 24-hour ticket available for 25 kuna (€3.50). You can buy a ticket from the TISAK stands near each tram stop and validate it in the orange machine once you board the tram. The Zagreb Tourist Board has also created the Zagreb Card, which offers unlimited travel on public transport in Zagreb, discounts at virtually all of the city’s museums, reduced prices at many restaurants, shops, and service providers and many other concessions. The card is valid for 72 or 24 hours from the date and time entered on it and is not transferable. You can purchase the Zagreb Card online, at all of Zagreb’s Tourist Information Centres and at the reception desks of the majority of Zagreb’s hotels.
